About US
Located in Troy, New Hampshire, Music for Life Studio is privately owned by Beth Varnum. Beth teaches piano lessons and singing lessons.
I have been singing since I could talk. Whether I was singing with my mother, to records, or some organized singing opportunity it was just about constant. I began taking formal singing lessons when I was in high school and have studied with a number of teachers. Singing in high school shows and choirs led me to seek a Bachelors degree in vocal music performance at the New England Conservatory of Music. I studied with Ray DeVoll there and I graduated in 1979 and went on to get a Masters in Education from the University of Massachusetts in 1983. I continued studying privately first with Mary Ann Ross and later with Jane Cormier.
Since college I have always worked in some form education venue, performing as a recitalist, in community shows, and as a cantor, soloist, or song leader in Churches.
I took piano lessons as a young child and then picked it up again in high school, continuing private lessons for the first two years of college. I love the piano both for the music that comes from good playing and for what it can teach the future musician. While I am a singer first, every singer should reach a certain level of ability on the piano, so not only do I teach students to play piano as a solo instrument, I strongly encourage my singers to take piano lessons.
I currently teach singing and piano by traveling to my students. I also teach at Hampshire Country School (a private boys boarding school), and I have taught toddler music and movement class at a local YMCA, in public and private preschools, and through the Rindge Recreation Program.
I teach singing lessons to students of all ages and levels and charge $35.00/half hour. I teach piano lessons to students of all ages from beginning to intermediate levels and charge $30.00/half hour. I discount families who have 3 or more members taking lessons and I have taught group lessons and when and if that is what you are looking for then we would negotiate a price based on your particular requests.
I taught in my home studio in Rindge for 18 years and have only just started traveling to students. I have students in Rindge, New Ipswich, Mont Vernon, and Greenfield.
